O
n th e one hand, Sandra
John so n w as lucky.
Previous ow ners had
already rem odeled the little
bath in her Los A ngeles
bungalow . On the o th er hand, they had
rem oved one o f only tw o closets in the
house to expand th e b ath to 6x8 feet.
Sandra had to decorate w ith dual
needs in m ind—add b o th personality
and storage. T he first w as easy. Vintage
accessories w ith a H aw aiian b en t—a palm
tree print, surfing postcard, and stack of
straw h ats—recall h er favorite destination.
Function w as a little trickier. A glass shelf
above th e pedestal sink and a side table
next to it w ere quick fixes, b u t it took
Sandra five years to find a sizable storage
piece th a t’s sm all enough for th e room .
T he 30-inch arm oire w ith its tropical
green-and-yellow paint job is a perfect
fit all around.
NARROW PASSAGE
A small-scale armoire,
above left,
provides
storage for everything from sunscreen and
toiletries to extra linens. Even the room’s
doorknobs are put to use holding jewelry.
TABLE M ANNERS
Pedestal sinks are great space-savers in small
baths, but they don’t offer much in the way of
landing space. A side table topped with a tray,
left,
keeps everyday necessities at hand.
TRO PICAL FEVER
A palm tree print framed in bamboo and
plumeria-scented diffuser sticks play up the
Hawaiian theme,
above.
“It’s a lighthearted
room,” Sandra says. (
